As Dean of the Library I am responsible for setting the strategic direction of the University Library and working with a strong group of librarians and staff to support student learning and success, and to support faculty teaching and scholarship

Provide leadership for all areas of the three Colby libraries. Oversee operations, staffing (12professionals and 15 support staff) and budgeting ($4.8 million dollars annually). Provide leadershipin collaboration with strategic collection partners (Bates and Bowdoin Colleges) and in developingstatewide programs and resources. Lead facilities planning and management, strategic planning andinnovation, and develop proposals for new initiatives, services, and process improvements thatadvance the library’s mission and vision in support of the mission of the college.

Provided leadership for all areas of collection management, including acquisitions, serials,preservation, cataloging, and collection development. Coordinate faculty selection of librarymaterials and direct overall development of the library’s collections in all formats. Responsible forplanning and budgeting approximately $1 million dollars annually for the support of the collections,and for supervision and motivation of six full-time staff.

Provided leadership in all areas of planning, budgeting, staffing, collection development, and libraryservices. Directed a full-time staff of six. Provided leadership in the creation of the MORE libraryconsortium, a multi-type library consortium which included Chippewa Valley Technical College and20 public libraries. The Consortium has grown to 49 libraries and circulates 5.1 million itemsannually.

Planned, implemented, and maintained the delivery of electronic services, including the Dynixlibrary system, CD-ROM server, 30 library PC’s, and web-delivered information services. Createdand delivered in-service training for library staff and Internet training for campus faculty and staffon use of electronic services as well as general Internet training.

Planned and developed reference services, scheduled reference staff, oversaw development of thereference collection, worked with faculty departments, and coordinated the development of acomprehensive collection development policy. Assisted in bibliographic instruction for students inthe traditional as well as the adult degree completion programs.

Supervised cataloging, and acquisitions for the main library and special collections; supervised astaff of three. Planned and supervised the retrospective conversion, authority control cleanup, andbarcoding of entire collection. Negotiated the contract, implemented, and managed an InnovativeInterfaces, Inc. integrated library system.

Participated in reference desk rotation and campus wide bibliographic instruction program.Provided advanced instruction, online searching, and coordinated collection development for fouracademic departments. Supervised Interlibrary Loan and a staff of one.
