As the editor and publisher of The Walton Tribune, I assisted the proprietor of the newspaper by guiding daily business operations with specific oversight of the editorial department. I was involved in personnel decisions; assisted with advertising issues; wrote stories, columns and editorials; planned and produced special sections and magazines and more, including leading the transition to an upgraded website during early 2020. During my time at The Tribune, the newspaper finished first in the Georgia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest for General Excellence, for its division, for seven years from 2017-23.

Covington, Georgia

I was appointed publisher of The Covington News in 2017 by new ownership. In addition to the normal duties of a publisher, I guided the newspaper's transition to new accounting services and a new printer, saw the transition to in-house design and was responsible for introducing new products to the team and the community. During our time in Covington, the newspaper had its first profitable month in at least a decade.

Monroe, Georgia

I was in charge of the editorial operations at The Walton Tribune, an award-winning newspaper serving as the legal organ for Walton County, Georgia. While I was in this position, I helped lead the newspaper to producing more special sections in magazine format and worked with online products as well. The newspaper earned first-place General Excellence honors in the Georgia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest in 2017 and 2018.

Fort Payne, Alabama

I managed the award-winning Times-Journal newspaper, serving Fort Payne and DeKalb County, Alabama. My duties included oversight of all business functions and community and customer relations. I helped lead the paper through the introduction of a new lifestyles magazine and I also served editor of the Opinions page, which won first place in the 2015 Alabama Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.

Monroe, Georgia

As publisher of The Walton Tribune and president of Monroe Newspapers Inc., I managed business operations of a twice-weekly newspaper honored in 2011 as General Excellence winner for its classification in the Georgia Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest - the beginning of a three-year winning streak in the state's most prestigious newspaper honor. I also led the newspapers’ advertising department for the majority of my time at The Tribune.

Albertville, Alabama

I managed the news and sports staff for three years at one of Alabama’s top community newspapers. The position included primary news design responsibilities, including the front page, assignment of stories, copy editing, coverage of the city school system and opinions writing.

Gadsden, Alabama

City government was my primary beat for this daily newspaper in northeast Alabama. My work was recognized with a New York Times Co. Chairman’s Award and in the Alabama Associated Press Managing Editors’ awards for in-depth news coverage.
