I teach high school English in the Iowa City Community School District and Economics & Finance at Iowa Wesleyan University. I also have a coaching license.Prior to teaching, I worked in the compliance and legal departments of a top-ten broker-dealer in the financial securities industry for 13 years. I served as a Registered Representative, Investment Advisor Representative, Registered Principal, and Registered Options Principal with FINRA Series 7, 24, 66, & 4 licensures.For the majority of that time I led and supervised the team responsible receiving, researching, responding to, and resolving complaints and disputes while abiding by the rules of our highly regulated industry. This experience required that I develop the ability to explain complex products and strategies to individuals at a variety of levels of education and knowledge. I have significant experience teaching high school and community college graduates the real world skills required to be successful in their first office job and in the financial industry. I also worked in the Compliance Advertising department, directly working with marketing stakeholders to develop effective materials consistent with financial industry regulations and internal policies. I also spent 7 years as a Quaker pastor, attending seminary at Bethel University.In my spare time I am involved with the local theater and arts community; judge high school speech contest; coach football, soccer, and other sports; write; and care for our homestead where we raise sheep, chickens, and a sizeable garden.
