A joint venture between Barclays and HSBC, the company employs around 2000 staff.Held executive responsibility for risk across the company and, leading a team of 20, successfully managed all compliance, risk and health and safety related activity.• Introduced a new second line of defence risk model across the company's 18 sites, improving efficiency whilst reducing risk costs by more than 20%, and at the same time increasing shareholder and customer satisfaction scores to record levels.• Drove continuous improvements in the relationship with the Bank of England, successfully moving the company's regulatory rating from Red to Green.• Led introduction of a new partnership model to manage functional risks. Influencing stakeholders and obtaining their buy in were instrumental in helping the business achieve aggressive growth targets in a safe and structured manner.• Improved relationships with shareholder banks by building closer working ties through dialogue and chairmanship of both internal and external risk and audit committees. Success was formally acknowledged by Barclays and HSBC, resulting in a significant reduction in audit oversight and delivering cost savings to the business. • Facilitated both risk assessments and ongoing risk management to ensure delivery of the company's change portfolio valued at c£5m per annum.• Reduced the overall cost of insurance premiums by more than 25%, saving in excess of £750k over a 3 year period whilst maintaining quality of insurance cover. • Led audit and risk due diligence work on new managed services contract partners (including blue chip names); contracts valued at more than £3m,• Chair of Payments Council Cash Risks Group from 2012 to 2015.• Instigated and drove the "Single Point of Failure" programme, identifying and removing critical standalone processes posing risks or threats to business continuity.

The joint venture was established following regulatory censure and criticism of its predecessor by the Bank of England. Originally seconded to the new company by Barclays prior to joining full time at the end of 2008. • Established and embedded a fit for purpose risk framework following acquisition of company, obtained the approval of both the shareholders and regulator (Bank of England) to the new model. Steps included:• Design and implementation of risk policies and methodologies.• Development of risk scenarios, risk and control assessments, KRI / KPIs and other core governance components. • Risk strategy development and implementation; formation and management of risk committee structure.• Developed and led compliance, governance and health & safety activity across the company; also direct responsibility for Data Protection, Money Laundering compliance and fraud avoidance. • Introduced a risk capture and tracking database enabling optimal reporting and escalation (replacing inadequate manual processes previously used). The new approach significantly improved the quality of risk management across the company, culminating in the removal of Vaultex from the regulator's watch list. It also delivered operational efficiencies and resource savings worth around £500k (after set up costs) resulting from the application of a consistent standardised and simplified model.

• Successfully completed risk and audit due diligence on a significant overseas acquisition; the concluded deal was valued as worth in excess of £40m to Barclays. • Drove delivery of Entity Level Controls workstreams across European businesses, ensuring governance and control frameworks were consistently aligned and met all required regulatory and internal bank standards. • Reorganised risk teams and processes for both the retail and commercial banks across the United Arab Emirates (25 branches across the region) reducing overheads by over 15% within a year and accelerating referral and approval processes across the business. • Following the success achieved in the UAE, also led similar restructurings across the risk teams in 4 African territories delivering similar results.

• Director of risk work which successfully ensured compliance by delivering Basel 2 requirements and other regulatory initiatives as demanded by the Financial Services Authority. • Risk representative on Governance & Control Committee and other key risk committees, and responsible for functional regulatory reporting. • Drove delivery of Sarbanes Oxley requirements across Barclays global businesses, ensuring all deliverables met required risk and governance standards. Successfully turned a programme inherited on “Red” status “Green” within 4 months.

All targets were exceeded, ensuring cost effective introduction of new and simplified processes, enhancing customer service with no adverse effect on the risk profile. Awarded special bonus two years in succession.
