WBD leads economic development, job creation, and business recruitment and retention efforts for the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County and Pender County, North Carolina. As an economic development professional for the region, Mr. Pyron interacts with state, municipal, county and federal government officials, as well as private-sector leaders, educational partners, organizational allies and others whose support and participation is critical to WBD's effectiveness. Cliff R. Pyron Jr. was appointed Account Executive & Economic Development at the North Carolina State Ports Authority in July of 2017. Prior to his role in Business Development, Mr. Pyron served as Senior Manager, External Affairs at NC Ports. Mr. Pyron drove containerized BCO, NVO and intermodal business development efforts across a substantial customer portfolio. He developed and pursued a global client base across geographic and commodity markets to include, but not limited to the Americas, Europe, Asia, Caribbean, Mid-East, Africa and Oceania. Mr. Pyron was also the day-to-day contact for economic development opportunities at North Carolina Ports. His main tasks included developing a close working-partnership with the local, regional and statewide economic development community. He was responsible for implementing programs and services that retain and recruit globally-dependent businesses.

Key responsibilities included local and statewide media relations, online and social media communications, local and statewide stakeholder/advocacy programs, special events, and preparing external and internal communications products.Mr. Pyron was also the day-to-day contact for economic development opportunities at North Carolina Ports.
