About Cliff Bostock, Phd

I've had two careers during the last 30 years. (Linked In apparently has no way to effectively explain that, so I apologize for the length of this profile.) First, I've been an editor and writer in both alternative and mainstream print media. Also did a weekly stint in radio for about two years. Second, I've also worked the last 25 years in the psychology field, developing my own work with clients in individual, group and workshop settings. My specialty is creativity and the imagination. I regard my work as an alternative to psychotherapy, although I have extensive education and training in therapy practice.Writing Specialties: dining, psychology, pop culture, personal columns, humor, commentary on politics.Psychology Specialties: creativity, collaborative life coaching, consulting, writing, body image, midlife issues, sexuality and gender, psychology of cyberspace.(I speak conversational Spanish.)

Collaborative Life Coaching, Psychology, Personal Growth

Current
(Self Employed)

Atlanta

After extensive training and education in psychotherapy, I set out to develop my own work to help clients without mental-health disorders work through blocks, especially creative blocks (in a general sense). I call my work "imaginal training."I often work with writers, helping them complete manuscripts. I approach the work from both psychological and editorial perspectives. I frequently see clients in midlife and retirement-age "transition" (or "crisis"). I also specialize in "coming-out" issues for gay people and those who don't conform to normative sexual and gender expression.Spirituality is another area of interest. I see individuals and groups; I also conduct workshops in aging, dreaming, writing, the body, creativity, and more.

Freelance Writer And Editor

Current
(Self Employed)

Atlanta

Since 1980, I have worked as a freelance writer in addition to any full-time staff jobs I've held. Most of this was under contract with Creative Loafing (see above), but earlier included everything from medical newsletters to numerous feature-length articles for the Sunday magazine supplement of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Other publications included Brown's Guide to Georgia, Atlanta Magazine, and Georgia Trend. I also wrote a bi-weekly column for (the now defunct) ETC, a weekly gay magazine, for 7 years.Currently also writing a biweekly dining column for GA Voice.

Columnist And Blogger

Current

Atlanta

Currently write a monthly column on dining for Creative Loafing -- "Grazing." I wrote it weekly for about 30 years, making it the longest-running column of any type in the city. From the start, it was written from a personal, often narrative point of view, and was the first-such dining column in the city. I also wrote another weekly column called "Headcase" (earlier called "Paradigms") for about 20 years. It generally covered psychology, pop culture, spirituality, and politics. It was widely reprinted and I received several invitations to compile the columns into books. In 2007, I began a blog for Creative Loafing, "Omnivore." I initially was the only contributor, but it grew rapidly to include other writers. I still contribute to it.
