About Cliff Hammerschmidt
After programming for more than two decades using more than a dozen languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, C#, C/C++, Java, Ruby, and Perl, I've learned that knowing how to solve a problem using a specific technology is not enough. Every solution must also fit into a system that is often developed and maintained by several people over many years. My real-world experience developing and integrating solutions into shipping software has become one of my greatest assets. I am looking to take my experiences and lead teams in building exceptional software.I've evolved strong views on how software should be developed. I believe in valuing people over process, working software over documentation, collaboration over negotiation, and changing course over sticking to a failing plan. I feel teams should have end-to-end ownership of a problem; be able to make a decision and not be overridden. Teams need the freedom to fail so we can set lofty goals and build trust; not just in delivering, but in failing with grace and recovering. We must become our own experts, demand the highest standard from each other, and continually demonstrate our commitment by delivering, over and over again, solutions that work.My views are highly influenced by:- The Principles of Product Development Flow -- by Donald Reinertsen (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007TKU0O0/)- Kanban -- by David Anderson (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/0984521402)- The Psychology of Computer Programming -- by Gerald Weinberg (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B004R9QACC)- Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams -- by Tom DeMarco and Tim Lister (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00DY5A8X2)- The Effective Manager -- by Mark Horstman (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B071G6X14F)
