Founded an LLC in 2010 to execute projects as a consultant for various web media firms in roles such as Lead Developer and Technical Director. Built applications for client needs in Java and PHP. Utilized technologies such as Spring, SpringMVC, Spring Security, Maven, Hibernate, JDBC, Tiles, JSTL, jQuery, DOJO, Wordpress. Some clients have included Norfolk Southern, Adboku, Jeaper, Washington Theological Consortium, Colorado Donors Alliance, Staffing Advisors, IFCMW, IRN, StudioRHM, Perisphere Media, and the University of California Riverside.

Built and deployed the core SafetyPIN product. Hired and managed a team of developers, contractors and vendors to support the core system and all technical efforts. Established process and corporate policy for the technical divisions of the company. Directs application development, QA, and infrastructure for the company.

In addition to all of the responsibilities of the Solutions Architect role (development, code review and architecture in numerous languages and platforms across all company products), the Chief Solutions architect role included some more directional responsibilities. Serving on the executive team for Publishing Services, the role enabled engineering to have a larger say in the direction of the company. The Chief Solutions Architect advises the organization on incoming projects, new technologies, SDLC process, and new opportunities. The role is also responsible for technical interviews and training, and assists in recruiting and education efforts in the community. The role also included the creation and management of two new teams.Although this new role necessitated taking on additional management and executive responsibilities, it remained primarily an engineering one. In fact, the increase of scope to many applications and R&D/POCs for new technologies made it so that the Chief Architect role became a diverse development and technical learning opportunity.

Moved within the organization to a new role which accounted for additional responsibilities, becoming the company’s first Solutions Architect. Broadly, the role included performing reviews of all technology choices over the entire range of products and becoming an advocate for improving or replacing legacy systems and enhancing the company’s enterprise stack by taking advantage of the latest advances in the industry. It also included designing, proposing and developing new systems (in Java, PHP and C#), hiring and building new teams and performing code reviews and training.Designed, developed, and/or acted as lead engineer for many projects, most notably a Java platform to integrate many diverse multinational payment gateway APIs under a single REST interface and perform international financial transactions in real-time, a centrally administered access-token management system for diverse API service offerings, and a Big-Data driven customer targeting platform for marketing correspondence.

Led a team of Java developers to build and expand an enterprise E-Commerce gateway and marketing suite, and gave direction on other projects for an international publishing company. Transitioned the development team from consultants to in-house developers under my leadership and training. The role included system architecture, traditional development responsibilities, and the hiring, training and guidance of many junior and mid-level developers. The role also consisted of pre-commit code reviews, running production deployments, and communicating effectively with product owners, project managers, QA, support and the clients themselves.The primary system is a high-volume payment gateway and marketing platform for about thirty international client publishing companies. It hosts hundreds of thousands of payment sites and reliably processes millions of dollars in customer purchases every day. Core technologies include Java, Spring, SpringMVC, Hibernate, EJBs, Freemarker, JMS, JBoss (including use of JBoss Cluster, Cache, MQ, WS, and Remoting), Flex (over Granite), Maven, jQuery, KnockoutJS, and SQL Server. The role gave extensive industry experience with payment processing, encryption, tokenization, PCI compliance, web marketing, localization (language, timezone, currency, and payment method support across five continents), and very high load mitigation strategies (caching and optimization).

Worked as a developer for a Government contractor building applications for Federal / DoD clients across a wide range of requirements and platforms. Built Project Management / ERP solutions, EVM tools and FCA (Facility Condition Assessment) software. Specific technologies included Java (Spring, SpringMVC, Spring Security, Apache Tiles, Hibernate, Maven, Tomcat), CakePHP, MySQL, SQL Server, AJAX / JSON, VB and MVC frameworks. Worked as part of a small SCRUM team and integrated agile development methodologies in day-to-day work. Notable clients included NASA and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Developer for a successful media studio, contributing to a diverse line of browser-based software suites utilizing PHP, MySQL and Js. Products included a comprehensive custom CMS, CRM, and numerous other tools for non-profits in the DC area. The position fluctuated between part-time and full-time based on education commitments. Some notable clients included the ACLU and Discovery Channel.
