I am a consultant in the public communication of climate change, and the psychological obstacles to attitude and behaviour change. My skills include the design and delivery of research programmes, trainings, facilitation of stakeholder consultations. My specialism is the design of narratives and engagement strategies that can build a cross societal mandate for climate action, especially with mainstream, conservative and “non-green” audiences.In 2004 I co-founded Climate Outreach (www.climateoutreach.org), a climate change communications and training charity. My partners and clients have included over 20 governments, trades unions, the BBC, the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency, the World Bank and UNFCCC, and most major environmental organisations. I have led large research programmes in Wales, India, Tunisia (and North Africa), Canada and Australia. I speak and write widely on climate change issues including regular keynote presentations at conferences articles for The New Statesman, The Guardian, New Scientist and The Ecologist. I am the author of two books: Carbon Detox (www.carbondetox.org) a popular book offering "fresh ways to think about personal action to climate change" and Don't Even Think About It: Why our Brains are Wired to Ignore Climate Change which examines our complex psychological responses to climate change.
