    Mechatronics Engineer
Mra Engineering (Multiskilled Resources Australia Pty Ltd) Dec 2016 - Nov 2020
    Newcastle, Australia
I am currently working as a part of the Research and Development team at MRA with my primary focus being the development of their Stockpile Management System. In this role I have been required to develop and implement unique solutions to problems that arise for sites in the materials handling industry. Some of these include:• Positioning of machines for stacking and reclaiming tasks.• Laser scanning and 3D mesh generation of stockpiles.• Calculation of data for the optimization of machine operation (eg. Reclaimer turn-around angles, dynamic cut face height, windrow reclaim angle). From April to December 2018, I was working on site at Port Kembla Coal Terminal as a part of the commissioning team on for their R&C project, where I was assisting in commissioning three new Stackers and one Reclaimer and progressing them into handover. This work has allowed me to learn about machine control, and also to put some of my modelling knowledge to use in the following areas:• Dynamic cut face height calculation based on nominal stockpile with windrows for use in reclaim slew speed control.• Online density estimation for use in reclaim slew control.• Stockpile height estimation using boom tip radars for stacking control.
  • Hiveuav
    Mechatronics Engineer
    Hiveuav Mar 2016 - Nov 2016
    Newcastle, Australia
Since starting at HiveUAV this year, my role has consisted of the following:• Rapid prototyping and 3D design,• Microcontroller and embedded systems software development,• State estimator design and implementation,• Radio and network communications development,• Peripheral integration and device driver development,• Power systems and battery management design and implementation,• Product testing and field trials.
  • Mra Engineering
    Electrical Project Engineer
    Mra Engineering Feb 2012 - Mar 2016

I was based at Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Groups Kooragang coal terminal performing the role of an Electrical Project Engineer for 3 years during my employment at MRA. Over this period, I worked as a casual while finishing off my degree and then transitioned to full time hours in 2014, undertaking several projects over this time: • Fog Machine for localized dust suppression on Stacker/Reclaimer.• Vibration monitoring on Ship Loader tripper.• Remote RF Tag Reader installation.• Gearbox bearing temperature monitoring.• Dump station Coal Hang-up Detection. As a part of moving to full time employment, it was recognized that my skill-set would benefit the research and development department, which I was transitioned into in August 2015. While in this role, I worked as a part of a team developing a system using scanning lasers to detect coal hang-ups in wagons using laser profiling, and also worked on a 3D user interface for a stockpile management system.
  • Robotic Systems
    Mechatronics Engineer
    Robotic Systems Feb 2014 - Feb 2016
    Newcastle, Australia
As a supplement to my full time employment, I worked after hours at Robotic Systems designing and assembling airframes for multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles. My role involved the: • Mechanical design of airframe components, • Rapid prototyping of components,• Powertrain specification,• Assembly of the airframe,• Electrical wiring,• Autopilot configuration and tuning,• Flight testing of the airframe and autopilot. In 2014 the multi-rotor airframe I had designed and constructed was used by the Rescue Robotics team, which I was a part of, made it into the top 20 teams from around the world participating in the UAV Outback Rescue Challenge held in Kingaroy, QLD. In 2015 I was a part of a three person team that developed control system for the Intel ‘Game of Drones’ display during Vivid in Sydney. Over 18 nights our system controlled 4 tablet-controlled drones in a cage, which the public was able to fly in a controlled setting.
