Clint Walker is a man with a plan. Call him an artist on a mission!In less than a month, Walker will travel to St. Louis for the next round of auditions for the television show, The Voice.It will be the second time the northeast Oklahoma singer has attempted to navigate the four rounds of auditions. He is hopeful that lessons learned in the first audition, will help him emerge at the top of the anticipated 40,000 hopefuls expected to attend the auditions.Walker calls his style of music “country rockabilly,” saying he performs everything from classic country to Lynyrd Skynyrd, based upon the audience he is entertaining.“I wear a western hat, but that doesn’t mean I just sing country,” Walker said. “It just shows I was born a cowboy, but I like to Rock & Roll.”He also likes to toss in some blues and “down home roots” music, again depending upon who might be in his audience.“I never come to my show with a set list (of songs),” Walker said. “I like to read my audience, see the demographics and call the set list from the stage.”He got his start performing, at age 9, when he took the stage during a 4-H Share The Fun event. When he was 16, Jana Jae began to mentor him, helping him get experience on the national music scene. Through her influence, Walker has had the opportunity to open for artists like George Jones, Ronnie Milsap, Jerry Reed and more.He released his newest CD, “This Is Clint Walker” in June, at a party hosted by Susie and Ray Holden in Grove. Walker describes the music on this disc as songs, taken from his “daily, ordinary life.”While Walker said he is partial to all of the songs on this release, two are special. Those songs, “Best of My Best Friends” and “Grandpa and Me,” talk about how his father and grandfather have impacted his music.In the last year, Walker has spent time writing and producing his newest CD, along with reorganizing his band. Currently two Okay, Okla., residents, Richard Martin and Randy Todd, serve as his band.
