As a Customer Experience Engineer, I was responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of several product lines in the J&J Vision portfolio. I utilized engineering principles and cutting-edge technologies to develop and deploy novel vision-based inspection solutions powered by machine learning software.

I was the leader of a diverse team of engineers and medical device professionals. As a project leader I was responsible for scheduling, budgeting, and anticipating engineering roadblocks. I examined all possible outcomes, and identified mitigating activities to reduce risks or technical difficulties. I worked with a wide variety of skill sets, and was able to effectively communicate requirements and engineering concepts to an array of stakeholders. I led several large teams to implement new government regulations, design changes, and manufacturing validations across Medtronic ENT’s entire portfolio of $600MM.

Researched and developed novel manufacturing solutions using automation and robotics to improve Johnson & Johnson's contact lens manufacturing process. Responsible for machine design and new product development related to the ACUVUE brand of contact lenses.Highly automated equipment required a thorough understanding of PLC programming, sensors, pneumatic systems, machine design, material selection, servos, robotics, cGMP, FDA regulations, change control process, ladder logic, tolerance stacks, and GD&T.Long term projects included design and development of large capital equipment for breakthrough improvements in uptime, yield, and throughput. Acted independently to identify new opportunities, prototype solutions, maintain vendor relationships, and adhere to project schedules. Worked within a cross-functional team to implement solutions while maintaining compliance with medical device regulations.

Partnered with world-renowned spine surgeons to develop industry-leading spinal implants such as PRESTIGE LP and the PTC PEEK spinal interbody coating. I worked closely with key opinion leaders and marketing resources to identify opportunities for new implants and surgical techniques. I also supported the launch of several devices, and participated in nationwide surgeon training sessions to educate surgeons on proper surgical techniques.Responsible for the research and development of innovative class II and III orthopaedic spinal implants and surgical instruments. Work includes DFMEA, DOE, GR&R, 3D CAD, GD&T, and manufacturing validations.Led cross functional groups to bring unique spinal technologies to market by using project management, innovative engineering design, in-depth knowledge of emerging materials & manufacturing methods, and thorough knowledge of FDA regulatory requirements.Directly responsible for feasibility work related to commercially successful bone ingrowth coatings and materials for fusion products, as well next generation arthroplasty products. Sustaining engineering support provided to market leading cervical arthroplasty product lines while maintaining an open relationship with Medtronic manufacturing and the FDA.Awarded nine patents and patent applications related to surgical techniques, instrumentation, and implant design.

Lead mechanical engineer for a robotic pick-and-place Bosch packaging line. I was the sole engineer responsible for uptime, yield, quality, and service of an automated packaging line running 24 hours a day. Skills required to maintain production targets included PLC programming and troubleshooting, machine design, vision systems, sensor I/O, IQ/OQ/PQ, and labeling systems.

Worked with a highly experienced and motivated team in a fast paced start-up setting to support the first commercially available biologic peripheral nerve graft.Marketing - Assisted with surgeon outreach by researching leading surgeons in the fields of trauma and urology for targeted marketing materials. Potential key opinion leaders were identified using journals and conference attendee rosters.Quality Engineering/Operations - Developed statistical tools to interpret data from several tissue banks. The resulting tools allowed the operations department to evaluate yield and tissue quality from tissue suppliers.
