Forty-five years as teacher, lecturer, coordinator, Director of Studies, Course Director, Head of Specialisation, course designer, curriculum developer, Project Elevator, Public Examiner, researcher and expert consultant all within Maritime Education and Training (MET), Maritime English, English for Academic Purposes, Study Skills and Teacher Education. Employed at World Maritime University since 1984, currently as Associate Professor, Director of Programmes. Member of the Academic Council since 1990, the Curriculum and Assessment Committee since 1998 and former elected Trustee of the WMU Provident Fund 1993-2015. Has authored some 45 papers on MET/Maritime English & related subjects; Honorary Secretary of the International Maritime Lecturers’ Association (IMLA) and its Focal Point at the International Maritime Organization (IMO); has headed IMLA’s delegation at IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee & STW/HTW Sub-committee meetings; Chairman of IMLA’s International Maritime English Conference; registered on IMO's Roster of Experts and Consultants; involved in various international R/D projects including MARCOM, METNET, MARLANT, IAMU-PROFS, SeaTALK; external/internal examiner for MarEngPlus, MarEdu, MarTELPlus and test evaluator for TUMST; member of the STCW IMO Technical Assistance Team visiting PR China 2001; evaluated on-board Maritime English programs of the National Institute of Sea Training, Japan 2006; has designed, led, delivered and validated Prof Dev Courses in Japan (3 times), Ghana (twice), Senegal, Russia, Myanmar, Ukraine, Romania, China, RepKorea, Cöte d'Ivoire, and on several occasions at WMU. Editorial Board Member of the Maritime English Journal of the Iranian Ministry of Higher Education and Peer Review Board Member of The Constanta Maritime University Annals. Has recently Chaired the Working Group that has revised IMO Model Course 3.17. Grand Marshall at WMU Malmö Graduations since 2011.
