Since returning to Zambia from the UK, I have worked in Banking (Meridien BIAO), mobile telecommunications (Telecel/MTN) and the hospitality Industry (InterContinental Hotels Group). I was inspired to open my own small luxury hotel, Eight Reedbuck, the first boutique hotel in Lusaka, to take advantage of a gap in the market. Owning my own business also gave me the opportunity to work on consulting projects in a variety of sectors from hospitality to construction and education. Also, as Chairman of SAGE Zambia (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship), I get the opportunity to develop and inspire a new generation of young entrepreneurs. I believe if you are going to do anything, be the best at what you do. I taught the future King of England, Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, to swim. I would teach the Princes once a week at Buckingham Palace, a great experience. I am a keen golfer and have won an array of local and national trophies (National Junior Champion / Lusaka Club Junior Champion / Lusaka Club Champion) I currently have a handicap of 8 and have recently completed two terms as Captain of Lusaka Golf Club.I am a real technophile and as such much of my work experience has been in this area. I helped develop the world’s first Smartcard payment system (The MeridienCard) for Meridien BIAO Bank. I was responsible for launching the payment system in 4 countries in Africa. I then went on to launch Africa’s first privately owned Mobile phone network with Telecel (now MTN Zambia). Developing and launching products using cutting edge technology and building teams to grow markets has been my forte.I am an eternal optimist and believe that the growth that we are seeing in Zambia is only the tip of the iceberg and this bodes well for those entrepreneurs with the vision and drive to exploit the opportunities. Couple Zambia’s wealth of human resource, with the right products and services and exciting marketing and the potential is unlimited.Think Big, Start Small, Act Now!

Diector Of Sales And MarketingIntercontinental Hotels Group (Ihg®) Mar 2002 - Mar 2006Lusaka, ZambiaI was head hunted by IHG to join the Regional (EMEA) team to re-organise the Sales and Marketing department and to build a team of effective professionals to re-establish InterContinental Lusaka as the premier hotel in the country.Within 12 months of my joining IHG, InterContinental Lusaka went from 3rd place to 1st place in the market, in terms of occupancy and average rate. This was done by developing marketing strategies encompassing local, regional and worldwide markets, by building and motivating a strong sales team, and by ensuring effective customer focus. Well planned and innovative strategies have been central factor in achieving many of my successes over the years. Another important part of my success has been my ability to deal across all sectors of the market from the private sector, to Government and Non-Governmental Organisations. This was particularly evident during my time at Telecel where one had to deal with Government, the industry regulators as well as business partners in the private sector. -
Commercial DirectorTelecel Zambia ( Now Mtn Zambia) 1997 - 2001Lusaka, ZambiaThe launch of a CDMA digital cellular network in Zambia, the first of its kind in Africa. As a start up company this meant establishing the Commercial Department from scratch. While Telecel Zambia was part of a Pan African cellular corporation, there was little to no sharing of ideas between affiliates. This meant that there was no real Telecel knowledge base to draw from, and as such my main task initially was to set the foundations for all commercial activity of the company including strategic planning, procedure development, implementation and team building.Thereafter my role included overseeing the day to day running of Commercial activity of Telecel Zambia, Future planning & Business development, and to broaden the potential market base for cellular phones in Zambia.A key strategic decision was taken by Telecel to switch technologies from CDMA to GSM. Not only was I instrumental in initiating this decision, but it was my responsibility to ensure that there was a smooth transition from CDMA to GSM once the decision had been taken.Prior to leaving Telecel I was appointed by Head Office in Geneva as Project manager for 'Customer Relationship Management', and was charged with the responsibility of developing a CRM programme that would be implemented throughout Telecels African networks.
