I grew up by the sea and always wanted to work on or around it. Hard lessons learned from many a childhood cross channel trip, it transpired that I absolutely do not possess a set of sea legs, so my attention turned to life as a landlubber. I now live with my family happily landlocked but still in striking distance of the sea.My professional journey took me first into the ports industry where I’ve had the opportunity of working across a range of ports, operationally, commercially and even spreading into the world of property and estates management. I’ve held a number of Senior Executive roles in some fantastic ports, worked in some high functioning teams and had the great pleasure to lead some complex and truly inspiring ones and some exceptionally talented people.I now working to develop a range of exciting new projects and opportunities as the Group Commercial Director at Solent Stevedores. My role is essentially to manage risk, drive opportunity and build value. It is a joy to work in a flexible and supportive business environment with dedicated, highly skilled, professional and creative colleagues. The Maritime sector is an inspiring place to work and has equipped me with a range of skills, provided unrivalled experiences and opportunities for learning. The thing I’ve most enjoyed about a career in the ports’ sector is the diversity it brings, with a wide exposure to develop subject matter expertise to support a fascinating range of industries and supply chains from agriculture, automotive, construction, energy, manufacturing to the handling of containerised and unitised goods. It has also afforded me the opportunity to be involved in harnessing and supporting new and emerging technologies by playing a part in a wide range of stakeholder groups aimed at championing and developing the sector. I am a proven leader with a track record in spotting and developing talent, delivering bespoke customer solutions, developing strategy, negotiating complex transactions and driving positive change. I am not a very good sailor.
