Recently Clive has acted in several highly publiced cases which received worldwide coverage. In the last year he has gained recognition in The Times as their Lawyer of the Week and was shortlisted for Commercial Litigation Silk of the Year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2015. Most recently he acted in Sebry v Companies House, following the mistaken entry by Companies House on their register. In that case, Clive was able to establish a special duty of care owed by the Registrar to companies on its register.Clive also successfully represented the Ritz Casino (The Ritz Hotel Casino Ltd v Nora Al-Daher) in a claim for two million pounds worth of gambling debts unpaid by the wife of an Oman government Minister. The case, which received worldwide media interest, concerned the duty of care owed by a casino to its players.Clive is particularly known for his cross-examination skills. In Sharab v Prince Al-Waleed, he acted for Mrs Sharab in establishing an oral contract for commission arising out of the sale of an aircraft from HRH Prince Al-Waleed of Saudi Arabia to Colonel Gaddafi. Both The Times and the Financial Times referred to Clive’s bruising cross-examination. In his judgment, the Judge referred to “a very important point which was completely demolished by Mr Freedman in cross examination”.Shortlisted for the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2015. In addition to his skills as a trial lawyer, Clive has great experience as an appellate lawyer having appeared in the Court of Appeal on about 50 occasions. Examples of work include the recent Supreme Court case of Abela v Baadarani [2013] UKSC 44 where Clive appeared for the successful appellant in a case about alternative service in Lebanon. Clive acted in the leading case of Dadourian, which established the much cited Dadourian guidelines on worldwide freezing injunctions. He also appeared in the House of Lords in the most significant recent case on solicitors’ partnerships.
