My work has up to recently focussed on applying GIS & spatial methods within the health field, in particular concentrating on investigating the life-courses of individuals, and how this affects their social and environmental exposure. My research is now evolving from this largely methods based research originally arising from my PhD, towards focussing increasingly on the science-policy interface, specialising on the social implications of climate-change within quantitative human geography. It is challenging interdisciplinary work interfacing between geography and health. I have been fortunate to hold leadership (PI or Co-I) positions in successful EU and UK based consortia which have, and continue to, bid successfully for very large EU 5th, 6th and 7th framework programmes.My major research contributions, broadly in the fields of GISc (Geographic Information Science) and spatial epidemiology, centre around 5 interlinked research areas: developing spatial analysis techniques and methodologies; disease cluster detection; the quantitative spatial analysis and interpretation of health data; investigating the role of population migration or mobility in environmental exposure studies; and investigating the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem (MAUP) in ecological studies.Specialties: Geographical Information Systems and Science (GISc)Geography of HealthSpatial epidemiologyExploratory spatial data analysis of individual level dataQuantitative Human Geography
