As Technical Specialist at the energy regulation department of the ACM I work on establishing, monitoring and enforcing regulation regarding the gas- and electricity grid operators. For my master thesis I investigated the possibility of integrating bulk electricity storage in the existing Ecovat system. The focus of the project was on integrating high temperature heat storage inside the Ecovat tank due to inherent synergy with the existing system. As a result of this project I put forward a possible storage and conversion module design, along with a model to gauge its performance both technically and economically compared to other options.

As part of a larger research project I studied the energy losses in a scale model of a seasonal heat storage system. The aim of the project, was to develop a system which not only can be used to supply central heating but can also supply hot tap water from the storage tank. To achieve this my task was to reduce energy losses and increase the output temperature of the system. This was done by developing several discharge regimes and carrying out experiments to assess their performance. At the end of my internship the setup was able to achieve the desired temperature levels. I expanded the available code to include energy production, energy loss and heat transfer efficiency calculations.

As head teacher I led the three day mathematics courses designed to prepare students for their final exams and supervise the other mathematics teachers. During these courses I reviewed the subjects for the exam and helped the students adopt and practice techniques needed for passing the exams.
