I worked in the Embassy of Argentina in Ireland completely through Spanish. In my role as Secretary to the Ambassador I worked directly to organise the Ambassador's agenda, plan events, communicate with other government bodies and embassies and do in-house translations. In April 2020, I began to expand my experience by assisting the Consular Section with their appointments. The Embassy of Argentina has given me an important insight into how an embassy functions on a day to day basis and the reality of diplomacy and international relations in general. I enjoyed using Spanish every day and seeing how the international relationship works between two countries in person. The variety of work made my role extremely interesting and I valued the opportunities given to me in my tenure.

Translator/ Interpreter - I began in Word Perfect Translations as a Translation Intern along with twelve other people translating documents between English, French, Spanish and sometimes Portuguese. I completed various types of translation like medical records, certificates, legal documents, business accounts to name a few. I used SDL Trados to carry out the translations and always submitted them before deadlines to a high standard. I also did transcription and interpretation.

Assistant Project Manager - After only one month of my internship, I was offered a permanent position as Assistant Project Manager where I had to assign projects to translators and communicate with clients. It was my responsibility to ensure that the translations were completed to a high standard, formatted correctly and were returned on time. This job was a great starting point for me and taught me valuable IT skills as I used Microsoft Word and SDL Trados for my translations and Microsoft Excel for keeping track of all the assignments. It also improved my time management and communication skills.

English Instructor - During my year abroad, I worked in Berlitz as an English Language Instructor. After my intense two week training period, I was allocated various students to teach including both individuals and groups of children, teenagers, adults and also Professional English in specific companies. This job taught me valuable organisation and planning skills as I had to structure the classes myself based on each of the students' abilities. Being a language student, it gave me a different perspective on the structure of the English language itself and the most efficient way to teach it. It also taught me empathy and understanding and how to work supportively with your students to achieve results.
