I’ve always been a bit of an outlier when it comes to accounting. I could see, even as a new accountant, that compliance and technical work were only part of the puzzle – clients were hungry for real advice and support.I started in traditional firms, before working in commercial finance in the UK. I also worked for Xero, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge of what was then a brand-new platform. Back on home turf, I used that knowledge to open my own 100% Xero-based, fixed-fee accounting firm a decade ago – the first of its kind in New Zealand. The approach proved to be a huge hit with clients, and I’ve seen other firms follow in its footsteps since. My latest move has been to partner with the talented directors at BetterCo. We’re all committed to delivering value to our customers, using our breadth of knowledge to help them achieve ambitious business goals.I’m always on the lookout for new insights, new technology that lets us do more or do things differently, new ways of working with my clients.
