I am currently a 2nd year PhD student in the Curriculum in Toxicology and Environmental Medicine at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. My research focuses on peanut allergy's impact on the gastrointestinal system specifically the intestinal epithelial barrier.I am an alumni from Northern Kentucky University where I majored in neuroscience and achieved minors in biology and honors. At NKU I worked with Dr. Christine Curran studying the effect of the environmental toxicant Benzo[a]Pyrene on cognitive development in mice. Through this lab I have developed skills such as animal handling and care, wet lab skills such as PCR genotyping, analytical chemistry including HPLC and UPLC, and various biochemical assays.

Research AssistantNorthern Kentucky University Jun 2019 - Jul 2022Highland Heights, Kentucky, United States• Studied genetic susceptibility to developmental exposure to environmental toxins found in traffic related air pollution using a mouse model• Performed neurobehavioral tests on the mice as well as husbandry tasks • Used real-time qPCR to quantify gene expression changes and ELISAs to measure brain-derived neurotrophic factor and corticosterone levels• Used metabolic cages to collect feces from the mice at different developmental points, then extracted the DNA from the feces samples to determine the makeup of the gut microbiome• Tissue collection and organ harvest of the mice, collected from both the body and the brain -
Summer Undergraduate Research FellowUniversity Of Cincinnati May 2021 - Aug 2021Cincinnati, Ohio, United StatesI worked in the Dr. Teresa Reyes lab under the direct supervision of Dr. Brittany Smith. • Performed neurobehavioral tests in mice to measure cognitive flexibility including digital operant box training, as well as a pilot studying running the rule set shifting task• Scored behavioral tasks such as zero maze, and analysis data• Helped with tissue collection and organ harvest of the mice including perfusions, brain dissection, and mounting brain slices to microscope slides
