About Clovis Tan
I come from a diverse background and extensive experience in various fields. My involvement in the student union as a Welfare Secretary at NUS exemplifies my dedication to serving and supporting others within the university community. This has sharpened my leadership capabilities and honed my ability to think out of the box. With a background in electronic commerce, information systems, big data, and business management/analytics, I am blessed to be able to amalgamate my technical expertise with strategic thinking and organizational leadership. Even though I did not pursue the technological and computing track upon graduation, I make sure to keep myself warm in the area of digital literacy and computing. The last 10 years at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority allowed me to sharpen my leadership and analytical thinking. Beyond overseeing teams on the ground as a Team Leader, I was given the opportunity to drive organization transformation and strategic planning at ICA. My latest appointment as a Deputy Head (Sea Development) gave me the opportunity to lead a highly motivated team to innovate, ideate and plan for new checkpoints, and simultaneously ensuring efficient and effective processes.Overall, my multifaceted background and wealth of experience make you a valuable asset in any setting, where my skills in leadership, management, and operational planning are sure to be beneficial.

Teaching Assistant
As a teaching assistant, not only would I need to be well-versed in that particular subject, I would need to balance my work and study time well to ensure that I am prepared for class (lesson plans, teaching plans and marking). With students consulting me on a regular basis, my people management and critical analysis skills are being put to test.I tutored 2 modules for AY12/13 Semester 2 at the School of Computing:1. IT1004 Introduction to Electronic Commerce2. IS3230 Principles of Information SecurityI tutored 1 module for AY13/14 Semester 2 at the School of Computing:1.IS1103 Computing and Society
Student Welfare Secretary
I oversee the general welfare of students in NUS. Under me, I have 2 deputies and 4 assistants that are in charge of specific areas of welfare. Some areas that are under my purview are:1. Academic Welfare - I, along with my team, sit on the Board of Undergraduate Studies to represent the voice of the students and be the bridge between students and Senior Administration. We give our inputs and feedbacks on new and existing implementations to ensure education at NUS constantly remains relevant to the students. I, too, sit on the CORS (A system NUS Students use to bid for modules at the start of the semester) Review Committee to give my student's input.2. Food and Dining - My assistant and I sit on the University Dining Committee and Tender Review Committee. We gather feedback from students and with a few priorities in mind such as, general pricing and variety, decide with the committee, which outlets or stores come in to NUS.3. Transport and Infrastructure - My team and I work closely with the Office of Estate and Development to ensure that pertinent issues such as the Internal Shuttle Bus services, carparks and general infrastructure of NUS are being constantly reviewed. 4. General Students Welfare - I work with a team of committed students to ensure that 3 areas of general students welfare are met, namely: Welfare during the examination periods, Welfare for freshmen and Welfare throughout the semester for undergraduates. 5. Students' Fund - With a very capable team, we administer book award and book grants bi-annually. Using a very robust algorithm, the team sieves out the students who are in need of funds and grants. Also, the team advocates financial literacy with new initiatives for the undergraduates on a yearly basis.I review feedbacks and generate policies with my deputies. These policies affect the general student population at large and will be shared and presented, after our analysis of our bi-annual welfare surveys to the relevant offices.
Director Of Internal Relations | Alumni Relations
As the Director of Internal Relations, I oversee the internal connections within the union and work to bring clubs, offices and societies closer. This role was a new role created in my term of office and given my love for relation building and talking, we created a rapport with the Halls (which was hardly the situation before my term) and work closely to bring NUS Centre for the Arts and NUSSU Cultural Activities Club closer. An internal council digest was also started with the idea that everyone should know what everyone is doing. I also works closely with the Director of Projects to organize events such as the meet ups and gatherings at Con club (faculty clubs) or Committees level. The term of thee 33rd NUSSU Exco, I engaged the Office of Alumni Relations on a deeper level.(1) worked with OAR to re-adjust and refine the Class Ambassador scheme.(2) engaged on regular discussion to see how NUSSU can still remain relevant to OAR and vice versa (i.e. planning the meeting with the Hong Kong Alumni Chapter during the council trip)(3) I was called to be on the panel as a student leader at the Alumni Leaders Forum 2012 as a student panelist. With the help of OAR, I organized a successful homecoming hi-tea that saw 80 NUSSU alumnus coming back to U-Town for a wonderful get together. I also works closely with NUS Society (NUSS) and sit on the NUSS-NYC Young Change Makers Grant Panel to ensure that a “students take” would resound in the decision making of the panel to award grants to NUS Students who create an impact on students within the NUS community.
Orientation Week 2012 Project Director
Freshmen Orientation has always been the largest event of the School of Computing's calendar. With a very capable team, the O'Week 2012 committee organized a very successful and groundbreaking 8 days camp with a finale at Sentosa Wavehouse that showcased SOC's first ever bash (pageant) and generally, SoC's largest ever camp.
Director Of Sports
I introduced the first Sports Camp to the School of Computing students with my very capable and committed team. We started the Inter-Major Games and Sports Day for computing students and was the convenor and organizer for the Inter Faculty Games Soccer and Swimming in 2011.
Relief Teacher
I taught General Paper H1 to students in their first year of Junior College for 7 months. This experience enabled me to handle classroom conditions and to inspire students towards their aspirations.
