I have always had an interest in journalism and media. While undertaking a social anthropology degree at the University of Manchester I was a regular contributor to the Mancunion, the largest student paper in Europe, for which I was the travel editor, a feature writer, a music critic and the weekly cartoonist. In 2009 I won a Guardian Student Media Award for a case study of the illegal logging industry in the Philippines, a project I conducted in the summer of 2006. I am currently on a fast track NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) diploma at Highbury College, Portsmouth.Through my written and editorial work for the Guardian, South Africa’s Mail & Guardian, Songlines Magazine, Think Africa Press and the Mancunion I have gained experience with PagePlus, Excel and Final Cut Pro.
