Clyde Puli is an Educator, PR Strategist, Broadcaster and Sociologist. He is a former MP/Parliamentary Secretary of State/Mayor of Qormi/ Secretary General of the Nationalist Party (EPP/Christian Democrat)He studied sociology and communications at the University of Malta. He also obtained a Masters degree in political sociology. He holds a teaching warrant and is a member of the Malta Institute of Management, the UK Chartered Institute of Public Relations and the European Sociological Association. He lectures Political Sociology with the Public Policy Department at the University of Malta.He was elected to public office in 1994 as Local Councilor for Qormi (Citta Pinto). He served as Mayor between 1998–2001 and was re-elected to the Council in 2001 and he served until 2003, when he resigned to take up his Parliamentary seat. His political career spans over 30 years. It started in the late eighties when he joined the youth movement of the Nationalist Party. 1997 he was elected President of the Nationalist Party's College of Councillors, through which he was appointed ex-ufficio member of the Party's Administrative Council, Executive Committee and General Council. Between 2017 and 2020 he was elected to serve as General Secretary of the Nationalist Party, the post being one of the very top posts of the party and CEO of the same political organisation. In 2003 he was elected to Parliament and was returned and served for four consecutive legislatures until 2022. He was appointed member of the Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs in 2004. Between 2013 and 2022 he was appointed to the Maltese delegation for the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, Member of the Standing Committee on Public Appointments. During his nearly 20 year tenure he was the Opposition's main spokesperson and Shadow Minister for Education, Sports, Employment, Broadcasting, Social Policy and Citizen and Consumer Rights.Clyde Puli was Parliamentary Secretary (of State) for Youth and Sport, appointed by then Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to his cabinet of ministers. During his five year tenure between 2008 -2003, he set up, amongst others, the National School of Sports and The National Youth Agency.He is currently a resident political analyst on TVM's (the national broadcaster) Hadt L-Ahbar which is a weekly programm of news and political analysis. During a broadcasting career which goes back to 1991 he hosted and produced various radio and tv programmes and penned various opinion columns.
