Chloe Cheng is a sixth year PhD candidate in Dr. Joeva Barrow's laboratory in the Biomedical and Biological Sciences (BBS) program at Cornell University. With nearly a decade of experience in molecular biology research, she is dedicated to utilizing this interdisciplinary skillset to drive innovation in the field of metabolism. As a trained molecular biologist, Chloe has extensive experience using both her research and communication skills to inform and collaborate with experts in the molecular nutrition, metabolism and obesity fields. In addition to her in vitro and in vivo wet bench skills, she is an expert in literature review, an passionate mentor, and an experienced grant writer. Chloe plans to leverage her skillset in publishing her thesis project, "AQP1—A BROWN ADIPOSE TISSUE-SILENCING REGULATORY FACTOR TO COMBAT OBESITY AND METABOLIC DISEASE." Her research experiences prior to graduate school were in the UCLA Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, conducting cancer metabolism research in Dr. Caius Radu's and Dr. Johannes Czernin's laboratories. During her time at UCLA, Chloe worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Caius Radu's laboratory for three years assisted in the writing, submission and publication of a manuscript to Nature Communications. Following her graduation from UCLA, Chloe worked as a full-time research associate for Dr. Johannes Czernin at David Geffen School of Medicine during her gap year to gain experience working with in-vivo studies and assisted in preparing two manuscripts for publication.
