Profile bio

About Chris Miyinzi Mwungu

I am a leader with over 10 years of experience in agricultural research and the socio-economic development of countries, now further enhanced by my recent achievement of completing a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Tasmania. My research has focused on climate change-related risks, opportunities for adaptation, and the policy environment, with a particular interest in how climate-smart agriculture adoption can address nutrition and hunger crises. This work has contributed to my deep understanding of integrating climate change into existing programs and projects, and the development of monitoring instruments relevant to climate-smart agriculture.Currently, I work as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, where I continue to explore my interests in environmental economics, food systems, technology adoption, gender analysis, and impact evaluation. In this role, I am committed to leveraging my expertise to contribute to sustainable environmental practices, improve livelihoods, enhance food safety and security, mobilize resources, and utilize data analysis to uncover patterns and develop meaningful narratives.Throughout my career, I have published articles and data in peer-reviewed journals such as Food Policy, African Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Oxford University Press. I have also authored and co-authored books and book chapters on climate-smart agriculture technologies. One of my notable projects at CIAT involved "Increasing food security and farming system resilience in East Africa through wide-scale adoption of climate-smart agricultural (CSA) practices." This project aimed to enhance the food security and resilience of smallholder mixed crop-livestock farmers in East Africa, while also mitigating climate change impacts through the adoption of CSA practices. My work included conducting a cost-benefit analysis of CSA technologies, systematic reviews of literature on the adoption and impact of CSA on farm income and household food security, and coordinating fieldwork research logistics across East and West Africa.I am passionate about implementing agribusiness and economic management policies that support sustainable environmental practices. My goal is to contribute significantly to improving livelihoods, ensuring food safety and security, mobilizing resources, and analyzing data to identify patterns and develop impactful narratives.

Listed skills include Economic Data Analysis, Social Media, University Teaching, R, and 43 others.
