I am an experienced science editor with expertise in publication ethics and research integrity. Prior to working in publishing, I completed a PhD in Biomedical Science from The University of Edinburgh investigating metabolic disease and adipose tissue dysfunction in obesity.My current role in the PLOS Publication Ethics team involves investigating research integrity concerns raised both before and after publication, including image integrity, human and animal ethics, authorship issues, paper mills, data availability, and a wide array of other concerns. Through this work, I feel a strong responsibility to ensure published research is trustworthy. I have a deep understanding of best practice guidelines in research integrity, including Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, and other cross-industry initiatives.
