Chris Funk has had a diverse career ranging from science to commodity trading. The common thread linking these areas is a lifelong interest in information technology, especially computer modeling, artificial intelligence and simulation.“When I was a graduate student in neurophysiology at Purdue University, I built computer simulation models of information processing in the retina. Later, when I had a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade, I designed technical trading systems for commodity and financial futures and successfully employed them. During the past few years, I have been building models of the U.S. federal budget. When I saw some of the dramatic things going on in the field of artificial intelligence, I just knew that there had to be an application for this technology in government."The author is neither a professional economist nor a political scientist. This perspective will permit a fresh view of what is possible that is not overly encumbered or restricted by traditional ideas. Business Week magazine has included Chris in several articles including a 1986 feature "25 Executives to Watch."
