For FDA submissions, PERFUSE provides scientific leadership, regulatory advice, and full statistical services. For regulatory meetings and advisory panel hearings throughout the world, PERFUSE provides scientific leadership and representation at the meeting, as well as slideset and packet preparation. PERFUSE now focuses on machine learning and artificial intelligence to mine large clinical trials databases to improve upon current predictive models. The site is viewed hundreds of millions of times each year. Gibson has personally edited the site over 65,000 times. There is no pharmaceutical or device company support of the site. The site is supported by volunteer efforts and the bandwidth is supported by viewers. Gibson has served as the medical lead in a partnership with Google, Microsoft and Yahoo aimed at designing the scheme of classifying medical content for the internet to be used at www.schema.org to improve medical search results.

Gibson is a practicing full time interventional cardiologist who has been selected as one of America's Top Physicians by US News and World Report and has been chosen by his peers as one of Boston's Top Doctors in Boston Magazine (see awards section). He has served in the past at several Harvard affiliates as a Director of a Cardiac Catheterization laboratory, as a Coronary Care Unit Director and as a Chief of Cardiology. He has held positions outside the Harvard system as a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Director (UCSF), Director of Invasive Cardiology (Allegheny General Hospital), Associate Chief of Cardiology (UCSF) and a Vice Chairman of Medicine (Allegheny General Hospital).

In the late 1990s Gibson founded www.clinicaltrialresults.org a web site that disseminates the results of clinical trials to tens of thousands of physicians. Slides and videos are available for downloading and viewing. Gibson has conducted over 2,000 TV video interviews. Gibson's mother was an artist, and Gibson has been a largely self taught artist for most of his life. Gibson now attends art school in Boston to round out his career with formal training. Gibson pioneered our understanding of the "open artery hypothesis" as well our understanding of the importance of restoring flow downstream in the capillary bed in the "open microvasculature hypothesis" in heart attack patients. Gibson invented several of the measures of coronary blood flow that are widely used today (the TIMI frame count and the TIMI myocardial perfusion grade).As a Senior Investigator of the TIMI Study Group, Gibson has led phase 1-4 clinical trials, including international, multicenter megatrials of over 15,000 patients at over 700 sites that eventuate in publications in the New England Journal of Medicine and FDA approval.
