AIDS Healthcare Foundation is currently the largest provider of HIV/AIDS medical care in the U.S. and leads substantial domestic and international testing and prevention efforts. As the Senior Regional Program Manager for the Public Health Division in the Northern California Region, I am responsible for the programmatic oversight of all regional testing, prevention and linkage to care services. Likewise, program planning and evaluation, project implementation and budget management are all integral to my position. In my role at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, I oversee the operation of a high-volume, comprehensive sexual health clinic where I lead a team of multidisciplinary professionals including HIV testing counselors, nurse practitioners and medical assistants. I work closely with partner organizations, local health jurisdictions, other business line/program leaders and community stakeholders to ensure that established services meet current geographical needs. Likewise, I am responsible for seeking out and forging strategic partnerships to further organizational/divisional goals and strengthen the availability and quality of services. I have contributed significantly to the development and execution of event based, mass testing efforts provided by the foundation domestically. I have also been tasked with providing technical assistance and implementing sexual health services in other regions. During my tenure at AIDS Healthcare Foundation, I have significantly improved infrastructure and expanded the availability and quality of comprehensive sexual health services provided in Oakland, California. The Public Health, Policy and Planning Division of the San Mateo County Health System works to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, delivers targeted health care services, provides public health laboratory testing and builds communities that make it easy to stay healthy.As a Communicable Disease Investigator in the STD/HIV program, I specialized in serving clients with HIV disease by providing countywide linkage to care services. I also worked with clients who had fallen out of medical care to address barriers and facilitate re-engagement in care. Likewise, I worked closely with clients at the county HIV clinic who were at risk of falling out of care based on behavioral and biomedical indicators. I also provided partner services to HIV positive clients, conducted investigations to locate elicited partners and provided partner notifications. In addition to the above, I investigated syphilis and other reportable STI cases, conducted client interviews and completed case reports. I also worked with medical providers to locate untreated clients and facilitate the provision of appropriate treatment, including delivering treatment to clients in the field. Providing direct services at the county STD clinic was also an important aspect of my responsibilities. During my tenure with the San Mateo County Health System, I played a key role in the development and implementation of technology based outreach strategies that effectively reached men who have sex with men (MSM) for testing and prevention services. As a result, the program substantially improved the ability to reach the MSM community in San Mateo County for prevention counseling/ education and referrals to HIV/STI testing services. In addition to providing services to clients, I established protocols, created quality assurance plans and coordinated services with a multidisciplinary prevention team. Monitoring program performance, ensuring that documentation requirements were achieved and providing regular reports to funders were also important responsibilities of my position. Developing future public health professionals was both a meaningful and integral part of my time at Tenderloin Health. Specifically, I was responsible for training, supervising and evaluating undergraduate students selected for our highly sought after internship program in HIV test counseling. Many former interns have gone on to earn graduate degrees in public health, and become productive public health professionals. During my tenure with Tenderloin Health, I substantially increased testing volume, positivity rates, and successful linkage encounters.
