Designed, incubated and now operating a product and service for unlocking the ability for schools to provide a variety of learning solutions through stackable, subject specific, alternative learning pods directly embedded within legacy public schools through enrichment pullouts, electives, independent studies, micro school learning pods and home school co-ops. Think Roku but for learning solutions, financially and operationally navigating "the system," to enable teachers, parents and students the freedom to easily enroll and de-enroll, subject by subject, in flexible, full-credit alternative programs -- creating a world of learning opportunities in order to activate "better fits" for students to thrive in existing public schools.

The Passlist - Inspired by Hollywood’s Black List for screenplays, the goal is to create a streamlined avenue for funders to identify high-potential projects and ultimately diversity/broaden their strategies to "caste wider net" going forward, ultimately helping social entrepreneurs gain access to the funding they need to drive impact.Beyond the Box Initiative - Mission is to increase the pipeline and creation of more impactful and innovative "social impact" solutions by enabling greater pathways for funding and adoption (in education, healthcare, clean energy, etc).

In high strategic alignment w/ the development of Sidecar Education -- Advising, developing and supporting a technology & AI enabled approach to facilitate the community-engaged “installation” of personalized learning solutions that can amplify and scale existing, effective learning solutions, while also reinventing the industrial school model. Akin to the shift in travel from a high touch one-on-one conversation with a travel agent to a more self-service experience like Expedia. Technology streamlined this experience, significantly contributing to the exponential growth of the travel industry. This is a similar application of technology that many communities can use to build expertise and facilitate the process of school design in order to seamlessly implement personalized learning experiences for students.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR: Phased Start Fall '22 --> Full-Time Beginning Jan '23 Chris headed up R&D for K-12 Education at the Gates Foundation where he was responsible for R&D related innovation activities, strategy and investments to drive transformative progress surrounding equity and student achievement; his primary goals being to yield innovation to accelerate and if need be, potentially disrupt the market with better, more adoptable products as well as to invest in and support the development and iteration of new and existing concepts, products, and solutions to dramatically enables more students to succeed in K-12 Mathematics.ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) CROSS DIVISION INITIATIVE LEAD: Beginning Feb '23 With the sudden prominence of generative AI due to ChatGPT, an initial sprint group was assembled to pull people from across all US education teams to not only guide initial grant making in this space but also to strategize and coordinate w/ the top levels of leadership surrounding the impacts and opportunities AI creates for work of the Foundation. MATH ADVISORY: Beginning Aug '21 - Fall '22 (Off Hrs Only During Federal Service Activities) Previously Chris severed as a member of the Math Advisory, a small group of experts supporting the K-12 Education strategy formulation and early enactment to explore how the Foundation might deepen the focus of their strategy in math. Advisory members spent time reacting to hypotheses & theories of action, offer candid advice on where our resources would be most helpful, suggest areas within the discipline of math that the team should focus on and determine where our resources might best enable the field to improve outcomes for students.

Chris served as Senior Advisor to the Secretary for Innovation & Improvement at the U.S. Department of Education working in partnership w/ White House as well as the Department of Labor, Institute of Education Sciences (IES), and National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance policy and pass congressional funding to dramatically accelerate the pace at which the U.S. invents, identifies, develops, and scales solutions to education’s most important and persistent challenges. He also served as the Director of Educational Technology to help pivot the country’s COVID federal emergency efforts surrounding remote learning policy, collaborating with the FCC to increase nationwide student access to broadband and one-to-one devices as well as representing the US w/ the State Department at international G-20 digital learning and AI working sessions.

Co-founded and de facto Chief Operating Officer (COO) overseeing strategic and day to day organizational, financial, talent & program operations • Actively strategize, vision, drive and execute an ambitious R&D agenda and program offerings to dramatically diagnosis and understand what drives vs inhibits student learning; the goal being to increase the avg. student rate of learning to more than triple the current national average rate of learning in order to meaningfully change the expected life trajectory of students • Consult, support and participate with multi-organizational education initiatives, including the creation of Common Core Standards/Identifiers, and the Gates Foundation’s Shared Learning Infrastructure (SLI) • Oversee the school/district account mgmt and program implementations for a network of schools that overtime has served over 100 schools across 21+ states. Work with students, parents, teachers and administrators to power the iterative improvement of all school models and program offerings

•Co-established and actively designed, managed, developed, implemented and iteratively improved an innovative new school model • This model performs mass customization of instruction in order to provide students with personalized, effective, and dynamic instruction by providing teachers with more time to focus on the quality of their instruction • A NYCDOE Innovation Zone initiative, piloted in NYC and named one of Time Magazine’s Top 50 inventions of 2009.

•Pioneered and co-established a new educational consulting and solutions line of business that provides innovative customized solutions to states, districts and other educational agencies nationwide. Served as a lead consultant in addition to co-directing a consultant group who lead solution teams of over 120 people in service of customers such as NYCDOE’s Innovation Zone, Chicago Public Schools, DC Public Schools, Gates Foundation and Teach For America.

Brought in to salvage and co-lead the troubled design and development of NYC’s $95MM+ Achievement Reporting and Innovation System in service of over 1.1 million students as well as their parents, and over 90,000 educators across over 1400 schools. • The longitudinal data system powered a number of end user applications and platforms such as ILearnNYC (www.ilearnnyc.net) & Illuminate (www.illuminateed.com) • Together these systems provided student performance info and enables educators to explore data to improve practice and student outcomes, receive online professional development, participate in collaborative communities to stimulate, capture, validate and disseminate best practices.

•Managed the portfolio of custom projects and standard reporting platforms for the Educational Data Services group •Trained, managed and mentored a set of associate project managers • Led the end-to-end effort of requirements gathering, designing, developing and implementing the initial 4 versions of an educator focused, nation-wide, enterprise level custom reporting platform • Provided onsite consulting, leadership and management of multiple teams of 3 to 35 people through the SDLC with a focus on data integration, UI/UX, educator collaboration and reporting.

Head Teacher: Led middle grades environmental instruction; classroom based and on-site lessons/activities for earth sciences along with additional team building and environmental workshops • Primarily provided instruction for middle school students grade 6 – 8 but also provided instruction for a range of participants including school students and other community members varying in age from pre-kindergarten to retirement; ranging in ability from completely functional to severely impaired/handicapped. Outdoor Education Chairperson (OEC): •Assisted in the creation, planning and execution of the middle school environmental science curriculum. • Annually redesigned professional development (PD), trained and managed student counselors •Designed & co-directed multiple 36hr – 72hr overnight programs - hosting approx. 125 - 180 students per program.
