A supervisory role that oversees staff members in the safe delivery of aquatic programs and services (lessons, drop-in swims, rentals, etc.), and to prepare for effective emergency responses that occur in the building and the pool specifically. I am responsible for creating lesson skeletons and attendance/report card trackers. I also complete staff evaluations, open/close paperwork, first aid checklists, accident/incident reports, and input pass/fail grades into the PerfectMind system.If patrons or participants in our lessons or swims have any questions, problems, or concerns, I will assist them to the best of my ability. If I cannot give them a definitive answer, I ask my supervisor for clarification.

As a lifeguard, I monitor swims and educate the public on pool rules, regulations, and policies to ensure their safety. If a patron is doing something that is deemed unsafe (diving into the shallow end for example), they are given a warning and a possible alternative that is safer than the situation/behaviour they were doing. I also respond to emergencies and rescue swimmers with injuries or who DNS (drowning non-swimmer). These injuries could be on the pool deck or anywhere else in the facility. If first aid is performed, then I am required to write an accident/incident report and hand it in to my supervisor.If I am a BUG (Back-Up Guard) for a leadership course, I will either assist the instructor with their class or maintain cleanliness in all areas of the pool deck. This also includes restrooms & pool equipment.

As a swim, Lifesaving, and Emergency First Aid Instructor, I have taught infants, children, youth, and adults swimming techniques, strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities. We have schools come in for our Swim to Survive program which teaches basic swimming abilities needed to survive in an unexpected fall into deep water. The Swim to Survive standard includes rolling into deep water, treading water for 1 minute, and swimming 50 metres. This is primarily aimed at children, but can be taught to people of all ages.I also teach first aid and practice physical fitness and lifesaving skills with Rookie, Ranger, Star, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, and Bronze Cross candidates.This job also involves:~ Assessing the progress of each student & adjusting the lesson plans accordingly.~ Completing skill assessments.~ Creating lesson plans that take into account the student's abilities & progressive development.~ Evaluating each student's performance during the lesson & providing feedback.~ Completing attendance, report cards, lesson plans, worksheets, progress & accident/incident reports when necessary.~ Enforcing & maintaining pool rules to prevent accidents & injuries.~ Providing lessons for individuals with special needs.

This was my first job as a wading pool guard at Balmoral Recreation Centre. I was required to monitor the safety of all patrons in and around the wading pool. Since the wading pool was very small, I would occasionally go into the water and interact with the children and youth. I would also have to explain and enforce rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety of the patrons. If there was an injury, I performed first aid and wrote an accident/incident report when necessary.I was in charge of maintaining cleanliness in all areas of the wading pool. This included pool equipment, patio chairs, tables, and umbrellas. When the wading pool closed, I took off the mat covering the drain.

Working as a Teaching Assistant at Oakwood Academy was a great learning experience and very rewarding. I got to work with children/youth on the Autism spectrum & other behavioural needs (Down Syndrome, etc.).As part of my placement, I was provided with an agenda checklist detailing the required expectations per week such as completing weekly readings, activities, and journal entries to assist with working with a child/youth who has special needs.I was able to work one on one with a therapist who provided daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities specific to my own goals and the child/youth's needs. These responsibilities included writing ABC charts, completing daily activities, and creating fun activities to do with the child/youth (sensory play, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, etc.).I developed a basic understanding of Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDC's) and DIR Floortime. This was used to take note of a child/youth's behaviour to help create an action plan to meet the specific goals of the child/youth you are working one on one with. This was also a good resource for when I was teaching swim lessons to children/youth with special needs. Using the FEDC's and DIR Floortime resources, I delivered personalized educational, behavioural, and emotional support to individual children/youth to enable positive learning outcomes. The personalized learning activities were kept in the binder of the child/youth you were working with for the day.I was given the opportunity to create arts, crafts, and activities for events/holidays such as St. Patrick's Day, March Break Camp, Easter, Valentine's Day, and Christmas/Holiday celebrations.If the classroom was messy, I kept it clean, neat and properly sanitized for the child/youth's health. I would collaborate with the therapists to prepare any materials needed and set up equipment.Overall, I completed 615 hours with this placement.

I started as a Spark in Girl Guides and worked my way up to a Pathfinder. I would go to Camp Wyoka often with my peers - usually in the winter or summer. I earned badges for completed activities or good deeds along the way.Before I left Girl Guides, I was awarded the Canada Cord on September 28th, 2013. This award encourages you to meet new people, learn more about yourself and your abilities and puts your leadership skills into action. It is also the highest award a Pathfinder can achieve.I also went through the Lady Baden-Powell Challenge which provides girls with the opportunity to learn more about Girl Guides and gain a deeper understanding of the sisterhood of Guiding.My group created bed pads for the homeless out of woven milk bags and cleaned parks of garbage.
