I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Thiel College, a small liberal arts college in Greenville, PA. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Conservation Biology with minors in Wildlife Biology, Food and Agricultural Biology, and Behavioral Biology. I went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Biology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where my research focused on utilizing macroinvertebrate samples to determine the impacts of energy extraction, specifically abandoned mine drainage and shale gas development, on stream biota. I am currently working as an environmental educator. As a scientist, I believe that I have a responsibility to communicate scientific knowledge to help others make informed decisions and build stewardship of Earth's biodiversity. Teaching provides a method for me make science more accessible to my students and to provide them with the knowledge and skills to think critically by applying principles to test their ideas, evaluating information, and recognizing the implications of their findings. Enthusiasm rubs off on students; I strive to make my teaching engaging, stimulating, and investigatory in nature by providing hands-on in the field or lab experiences. Moreover, I take an interest in each of my students. By learning their names and a little bit about them, it creates a classroom where students are comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas. I strive to be approachable for students and to be knowledgeable in my subject areas.
