I have the honor of serving as strategy director of data and measurement for Lumina Foundation, an independent, private foundation in Indianapolis that is committed to making opportunities for learning beyond high school available to all.Previously, I served as director of Strong Start to Finish at Education Commission of the States, executive vice chancellor of the Florida College System, the assistant vice chancellor for policy and research at the State University System of Florida, Board of Governors, the program director for policy analysis of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), and a postdoctoral fellow at the Illinois Education Research Council. Prior to assuming leadership roles, I taught at the early childhood, elementary, middle and high school levels. I continued my connection to the classroom be serving as an instructor at five universities and nearly 50 invited guest lectures at universities across the country.While my professional life has been dedicated to being a practitioner and policy leader the state and national level, I am a prolific writer and frequent speaker.My interests include the influence of state P-20 education structures on the educational decisions of both institutions and individuals. The products of this agenda appear in co-authored books, peer-reviewed journal articles, policy briefs, and various other publications complemented by over 300 presentations at the international, national, state and college level. In addition, my work has been reported on in The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Education, and EdWeek among others.I earned a bachelor’s and doctoral degree from the University of Florida and a master of education degree from Teachers College of Columbia University.
