About Steven Osborne
I have worked and volunteered in sport industry settings for over 30 years and have experience in management and strategic leadership functions within higher education, public and social enterprises for the past 23 years. I have previously managed frontline services, events, strategic change programs and continue to oversee the work of top executive officers and senior academics. I have led the development and delivery of national and local authority sports and physical activity strategies. I have also led local, regional and national working groups on strategy development, performance management systems and service development/ improvement in large public sector departments, national governing bodies of sport and social enterprises. This work has included developing, delivering, and monitoring large-scale strategic plans and partnership funding agreements. These experiences have provided me with the opportunity to work with, consult, present to and advise company directors, strategic managers and political stakeholders. I presently contribute to the sector as a member of the UK professional development board (UKPDB).I worked in higher education settings since 2010 and I am presently the Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences Employability Co-ordinator (Principal Lecturer), leading student employability plans across all university undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in sport and health. My remit also includes developing student enterprise and entrepreneurship activities and learning in partnership with the centre for student entrepreneurship. I am a trustee of the Work-Based Learning and Placement Learning Association (ASET) board, which includes distributing best practice briefings, hosting national conferences and research. I am also a full member of the Association of Graduates Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), Enterprise Educators UK (EEUK), British Education Research Council (BERA), and the Insitute of Small Business Entrepreneurship (ISBE). I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). I am also a member of the European Association of Sports Management (EASM), part of the broader network of world sports management academic associations. The association board recently appointed me to chair its first specialist working group (employability and entrepreneurship, including leading a large scale ERASMUS funding collaborative pan European project on sport management employability.
