I completed a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, as a Fulbright Scholar. My research focused on developing image-based Machine Learning techniques for surgical tool localization and tracking during ultrasound-guided minimally invasive procedures. I also undertook industrial residency at Philips Research North America, in Cambridge, MA, within the Ultrasound Imaging and Interventions group.Trained as an Electrical/Biomedical engineer, I have developed a particular interest in Biomedical Imaging and Instrumentation. My cross-cultural training/teaching/research experience at Makerere University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rutgers University, and Philips has prepared me for a role in technology development and shaping related policy for developing countries. I also have startup experience and an interest in sustainable energy technologies. To this end, I serve on various Boards of Institutions at the forefront of developing technologies that enhance the proliferation of renewable energies in Africa.I have found that the most enjoyable part of my work involves transferring knowledge and mentoring others. Since 2013, I have served as a mentor and judge on BigIdeas@Berkeley, an annual contest that provides funding and mentorship to interdisciplinary teams of students undertaking high-impact projects that solve the world’s most pressing challenges. In 2020, I was featured in Uganda’s top 40 under 40 (Survey conducted by New vision-Uganda’s largest Newspaper).
