Cornelis Nicolaas (Kees) de Groot is KSGV professor in Religion and Public Mental Health and lecturer in Practical Theology and Religious Studies, both at Tilburg University. He has studied sociology (MA) at the University of Amsterdam, theology (MA) at Tilburg University, and wrote a doctoral dissertation on psychotherapy and religion at Leiden University. He has published widely on religion and liquid modernity. How are Christian traditions transformed and continued in ecclesial contexts, in secular spheres and on the boundaries between the religious and the secular? His monograph The Liquidation of the Church (Routledge 2018) prepares further research in fluid ways of being church, chaplaincy studies, mental health care, and religion and popular culture.
