In my extensive career, I have accumulated expertise in designing and maintaining complex, high-capacity, highly available platforms. Most recently, my teammates and I managed a WebRTC platform that logged millions of call minutes daily of video conferencing, broadcasts, and media archives. Many environments I have worked in have required rigorous adherence to SOC2, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR, and CFIUS. • Extensive experience crafting high-volume, high-availability solutions in the AWS ecosystems leveraging EC2, EC2 Load Balancing, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, CloudFront, Route53, VPC, VPC Peering, Transit Gateway, Lambda, EKS, MSK, and others. • Managed AWS EKS clusters, deployed applications with ArgoCD, and managed resources with the AWS upbound provider library (Terraform under the hood). Wrote Helm charts and various tools in Bash and Python to interface with AWS and k8s APIs. • Managed AWS resources with Terraform, Ansible, and, as mentioned above, by directly calling APIs. • Managed server configurations with Chef, SaltStack, and numerous code-complete internal tools (at Yahoo!, Danger, and Microsoft as examples). • Critical incident management, blameless post-mortems, and creating and publishing customer-facing and internal RFOs • An emphasis on observability in all environments (using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Nagios).I have worked with platforms where blameless post-mortems were a key part of gaining learnings from each incident and applying that knowledge to mitigate or prevent future incidents. I have found that the key indicator of a successful, healthy incident management paradigm acknowledges that the response, communication, post-mortem, and corrective actions are transparent and a collaborative effort.

The team later focused on creating and maintaining a self-service platform that other business lines could utilize. -
It ConsultantFite Analytics Llc Mar 2018 - May 2018Manhattan Beach, Ca, UsI designed an Amazon AWS platform that utilized EC2 Linux, RDS, DynamoDB, Auto-scaling Groups, and Fleets within Amazon VPC.I migrated the platform from a bare-metal proof-of-concept application to Amazon AWS.One project involved containerizing Python Celery worker services with Docker. In another, I migrated the persistence layer to AWS RDS using Postgres and optimized the indexing workflow.I also performed consulting work for Fite Analytics in January and February of 2017. -
Infrastructure EngineerGemini Data Inc. Mar 2017 - Mar 2018Greenbrae, California, UsThe Gemini Data platform ingests SEIM and other massive log data sources (e.g., Splunk or DataDog). It creates visualizations for log forensics and management, including security incidents. The platform ran on Amazon EC2 Linux in VPCs, initially using solely Docker and later Kubernetes. -
It ConsultantFite Analytics Llc Jan 2017 - Mar 2017Manhattan Beach, Ca, UsFite Analytics scraped historical data from various financial markets, sometimes going back several decades, and packaged financial analysis for large investors. I designed and managed a Unix-based bare-metal platform for scraping and storing large amounts of financial data. I also maintained the GitHub projects and CI/CD pipeline. -
Lead Devops EngineerRunnable Oct 2015 - Nov 2016San Francisco, Ca, UsThe application would scan customers' GitHub projects and create a Docker-based sandbox for customers to test their full-stack application (this included database backends and persistent storage).Designed and maintained the deployment of a multi-tier micro-services-based application on Amazon AWS EC2 with Ansible. -
Sr. Devops AdministratorSelfie Inc. Jun 2014 - Oct 2015Selfie (later SpeakUp App) was a social platform for sharing short videos and building a bespoke community of users. As the key architect, I designed and maintained the application platform hosted by Joyent using SmartOS (similar to OpenSolaris) and Ubuntu Linux with MongoDB and Redis as the backend data stores. The application front end used HAProxy to load-balance requests to NGINX servers. I also managed the CI/CD platform using Jenkins with Subversion and Git as the SCMs and handled server management using SaltStack. -
Operations EngineerCognitive Networks Dec 2013 - Feb 2014San Francisco, Ca, UsCognitive Networks provided near-real-time analysis of broadcast television consumers using "smart TV" devices. I managed an Amazon EC2 LAMP application stack with a MongoDB backend. Using Jenkins, I facilitated development, continuous integration, and deployment. I also performed routine Unix systems administrator duties. -
