The project itself is a £25m substation, with the J. Murphy works focused heavily on the large scale civils work. Duties Include Providing levels for operatives using either a dumpy level, laser level or total station for various different works taking place on site Marking out manholes, cable pits, pipe runs and duct runs for all external works Marking out buildings for internal works such as wall openings, holding down bolts, wall locations Checking building walls, blast walls, divider walls for plumbness Checking operatives works as they progress and ensuring they are in line with drawings Liaising with site to ensure they are up to date with drawings, new information, any changes Ensuring works are carried out in line with the ITP and the relevant specifications  Ensuring works are carried out in line with Murphy health and safety standards Recording site progress as works advance and updating the project manager, the planners and the construction managers on site progress Liaising with site over any materials required GPS'ing/Surveying different points as work continues and updating as-builts And lastly, (and probably most importantly), helping to overcome different issues and problems as they arise. In May 2016, I switched from temporary works design within J. Murphy & Sons to site engineering. Here, I worked under the Thames Tideway Tunnel Enabling Works project, covering all of the engineering aspects for a site at Albert Embankment and Nine Elms lane (both in Vauxhall), while assisting in two other sites in Greenwich and Deptford when needed.Duties include: Providing levels for site operatives for different works taking place Marking out different services in the… Show more In May 2016, I switched from temporary works design within J. Here, I worked under the Thames Tideway Tunnel Enabling Works project, covering all of the engineering aspects for a site at Albert Embankment and Nine Elms lane (both in Vauxhall), while assisting in two other sites in Greenwich and Deptford when needed.Duties include: Providing levels for site operatives for different works taking place Marking out different services in the ground when required Ensuring works are carried out in line with drawings, the ITP and the relevant specifications  Provide site with any permits required, specifically permits to dig and hot works permits Ensuring works are carried out in line with Murphy health and safety standards Recording site progress as works advance and updating the project manager, the planners and the construction managers on site progress Liaising with site over any materials required GPS'ing/Surveying different points as work continues and updating as-builts Monitoring movement of ground and different structures as works progress Looking after concrete; measuring volumes of concrete required, ordering concrete, taking slump tests, making cubes, recording any relevant data and liaising with ESG to have the cubes tested Show less
