The main responsibility of an MAE is keeping track of all software changes, updates and software tools that need to be used on the vessel, to prevent that the wrong version is used on an installation. Next to that helping the electricians with fault-finding, and making improvements plans (software change proposals, SCP) on automation. This includes for example• Kongsberg Maritime: K-chief and K-pos.• Huisman equipment (siemens S7 incl. CFC): Tower and Crane.• Remacut (Siemens S7): Multi joint pipe handling system. • Hyundai Himsen 8MW Main engine siemens TIA portal• Heating, fans and air-conditioning system• ABB thrusterdrives.Next to the main tasks I find great pleasure of teaching and training new electricians the skills to work and understand to automation part of an installation.

Aegir (Vessel Heerema Marine Contractors)

Working as an electrician for 4,5 years on board of a vessel has given me the opportunity to deepen my understand and feeling for the processes in, on and around the vessel. And because a construction/pipelay vessel is like a small village with a factory on it, it has all facets and challenges there are in an electrical and automation environment. From the robots that handle the pipelay equipment to the sewage treatment plant of the vessel, from the automation of a 4000mT main crane to the production of fresh water. By working closely together with the engineers and operators, during fault finding and improvement, my understanding for the mechanical, hydraulic and operator side of the different processes has deepened. Of the 4,5 years almost 3 where in Australia with Australian crew, this has given a boost to the development of my English reading and writing.As an electrician 1 you are the responsible electrician during the watch. You are responsible for the work preparation, the execution and administration of (preventive) maintenance, fault-finding, and improvement projects. And you have to work closely with the engineering, deck and nautical crew of the vessel.At the Ichtys (Impex) and Prelude (shell) project in Australia this Is done with a new Australian crew, Knowledge transfer is the main part in the start of the project. During this project all capabilities of the Aegir will be used:• Reel-lay.• J-lay.• Mooring piles, chains and lines.• Heavy lift of the biggest sup sea structure in the world.• Placement of all kinds of subsea structures.

Heerema Marine Contractors Aegir

The first part as an Electrician 2 I was in Okpo south Korea to get familiar with the Aegir, Vessel Of Heerema Marine Contractors. The vessel is delivered to Heerema in January 2012, until then my daily occupation was inspecting the vessel to find and address building problems, witness and signoff mechanical completion and commissioning and observe how all the systems are coming live one by one. (16-1-2013) She has left South Korea and we sail to Holland, in Schiedam at Huisman, here the pipe lay factory is assembled.After the new build I actually started as an 2de electrician, your responsible to keep the electrical systems on the vessel in good working order. The Combined knowledge of my former engineering’s job at Endenburg electrotechniek and the new build experience I giving me a great start point. One of the main tasks was to transfer the knowledge on all new arriving crew members and get the electrical team started up as fast as safely possible. During Aegir first two project in the Gulf of Mexico (Reel lay and structures) and china (J-lay and structures) we had and team of Dutch and Asian electricians.

Testing in Ulsan dec 2011. and floatover march 2012. -Renovation of the automation from a water treatment ( ABB / Wizcon).-Troubleshooting and commissioning of the automation on the the Self elevating Platform the “Sep Desley Anne” in Australia for IHC handling systems.
