About Agnieszka Smitton
After my first degree in Musicology I did a Bachelor’s degree at the English Department of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, specialising in Teaching English as a Second and Foreign Language. Next, I did a degree at the English Department of the Pedagogical University of Krakow, in Translation Studies and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. My postgraduate studies in Conference Interpreting also helped me with teaching (mostly English for Specific Purposes) thanks to the intensive courses in Legal, Business and Medical English. I started my teaching career while doing my work placement in the third year of my BA in a secondary school in Krakow. While studying for my MA I did my compulsory teaching experience at MTE Fun Factory School of English in Krakow, and through this company I got to design and teach a university course in English for students of Tourism of the High School of Education in Sucha Beskidzka.Having graduated I was employed at Empik School of English, Poland, to teach general, exam (FCE, CAE, CPE), business and legal English in the school premises and several companies based in the city of Krakow (mostly IBM and Shell Poland). At the time I was living in Krakow I worked with age groups varying from 5 to 60. Meanwhile, I did freelance jobs as a conference translator and interpreter, mostly hired for business conferences organised by Blue Business Media Poland, but also the publishing house Musica Iagellonica.In 2011 I moved to England and started working at EF international College Manchester, where I have been running classes ranging from general English for all levels the school offers, through business and legal English to exam courses preparing students for IELTS, FCE, CAE, PET and TKT. My main interests lie in the area of student motivation, learning strategies, teaching writing, English for specific purposes and work with exam classes, including BULATS and ILEC.
