Senior Dispatcher
• A senior technical expert on each shift in the overall operations of the Emergency Communications Center. • In the absence of the Emergency Communications Supervisor, supervises and coordinates all subordinates' activities. • Directly oversee a squad of employees in the absence of the Emergency Communications Supervisor and carries out supervisory responsibilities by the organization's policies and applicable laws. • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.• Performs advanced technical level dispatching operations work. • Receives, routes and transmits emergency 911, Police, Fire, and non-emergency radio traffic via telephone, radio, teletype, computer terminal, and other communications equipment following established Agency guidelines, policies, and procedures. • Operates a variety of equipment, including telephones, radios, teletype, TTD's, computer equipment, office machines, and other communications equipment. • Conducts call-taking sessions in the CAD system. Monitors alarm system signals that indicate the location of a fire or another emergency. • Tests communications and alarm equipment and backup systems to ensure serviceability. Recognize and process all Deaf TTD calls. • Enter all required MILES/NCIC information into the computer and on paper. Review, check, and sign all subordinates' data entry work for accuracy and compliance with established policies. • Operate dispatch sessions in the CAD system. • Manage multiple tasks associated with dispatching. Operate radio equipment for dispatch purposes and relay instructions or information to the Police, Fire/EMS field units. • Recognize and prioritize calls to be dispatched. Scan status charts and computer screen to determine available units. Update and maintain accurate unit status.

• Operates communications equipment to receive incoming calls for assistance, dispatches personnel, and equipment to the scene of emergencies. • Performs intermediate technical level dispatching operations work under general supervision from a technical superior. • Work includes receiving, routing and transmitting information on both an emergency and non-emergency basis via telephone, radio, teletype, computer terminal, and other communications equipment and dispatching emergency equipment. • Follows established Agency guidelines, policies, and procedures in carrying out all duties and responsibilities. • Operate a variety of equipment, including telephones, radios, teletype, TTD's, computer equipment, office machines, and other communications equipment. • Receive incoming calls for assistance from citizens. Obtain required information from callers who may be under stress. • Operate call-taking sessions in the CAD system. • Type commands on a computer keyboard to update files and maintain logs. • Tests communications and alarm equipment and backup systems to ensure serviceability. • Recognize and process all Deaf TTD calls with speed and accuracy following all established guidelines. • Enter all required MILES/NCIC information following all rules and regulations.• Operate appropriate dispatch sessions in the CAD system. • Operate radio equipment for dispatch purposes and to relay instructions or information to field units.• React quickly and calmly to both routine and emergency situations. • Scans status charts and computer screen to determine available units. Update and maintain accurate unit statuses.
