Carlos is a leader in soil monitoring and an advisor to several companies related to carbon capture projects and technological development in the agricultural and forestry sectors of Mexico and the United States. Currently, he is developing a platform based on the LEMUR constellation, drones, soil surveys, soil color big data, neural networks, and multidimensional phase spaces, which focus on acquiring, analyzing, and representing magnitudes and trends of changes in soil and vegetation. He was a Soil Cartography Supervisor at INEGI, a member of the International Bureau of Soil Classification, a UNDP consultant, and an expert for the Joint Research Center for Environmental Migration Studies. Carlos presented the first national map of Soil Organic Carbon at the World Carbon Conference in Iceland-2013 and the first national map on Degradation and Deforestation obtained by photointerpretation at the World Forestry Congress in Korea-2022. Carlos is co-author of Soils of Mexico, the Soil Atlas of Latin America and the Caribbean, the National Atlas of Mexico, and the FAO Manual of Recommended Management Practices for Soil Recarbonization.
