Scientist
Current- Planned and performed experiments to generate product performance data requested by customers to secure large custom sales orders and collaborated with the Marketing team to include critical product characterization data on the website for top-selling GMP and RUO products. - Collaborated with Operations to successfully transfer manufacturing and Quality processes between manufacturing sites for four high-volume products to ensure future supply could meet increasing demand and demonstrate feasibility for a larger-scale transfer of over 100 products. - Developed a new statistical analysis method for product release testing to demonstrate equivalence between a costly international standard and our internal controls, creating immediate cost savings when running QC tests and ensuring continued product release when the lone supplier limited our purchase quantities of the international standard.- Worked with the Development team to design and execute studies to evaluate the technical feasibility of applying rheological measurements to replace unreliable quality control tests on best-selling products lines, allowing for product release in the event a failed QC test doesn’t indicate an impact to product fit, form, or function. - Designed and followed quality control procedures that complied with FDA regulations, cGMP, and ISO 13485.
Graduate Research Assistant
-Research Project 1: Cell signaling through G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) plays a critical role in a vast array of biological processes, including neurotransmission, pain perception, and pain relief. Dysregulation of GPCR signaling pathways has been shown to play a role in diseases such as cancer, epilepsy, and chronic pain. While the interaction between GPCRs and G proteins has been deeply investigated, the molecular mechanisms for downstream intracellular signaling is less understood. -My thesis research used a combination of cutting-edge imaging techniques, biochemical assays, and other biophysical tools to gain new insight into the molecular basis for intracellular GPCR protein signaling, resulting in a first author research publication and 4 research presentations. My work yielded important insights into how posttranslational lipid modifications on the G protein play a key role in amplifying the intracellular signal.-Research Project 2: In addition to studying GPCR signaling, I also applied chemistry/biochemistry, structural biology, and computational chemistry approaches to promote drug development for several proteins involved in human cancer, resulting in 5 research publications (2 first author) and 4 research presentations. My work revealed the molecular mechanisms of off-target drug binding and uncovered novel targets for therapeutic intervention in glioblastoma and triple-negative breast cancer.
Graduate Research Assistant
- Research Outline: The intracellular environment is a dynamic and complex environment, with a constantly fluctuating ionic strength. This can influence a multitude of biological processes, including neurotransmission, where ionic strength plays a key role in determining the membrane potential, synaptic transmission, and ion channel function. Despite the importance of understanding intracellular levels of ionic strength, there are few tools that can effectively quantify the ionic strength in living cells. - My research focused on developing time-resolved laser spectroscopy methods and statistical analysis approaches to measure fluorescent biosensors for ionic strength, resulting in 6 research publications (3 first author) and 2 research presentations. Importantly, these biosensors can be visualized inside of living cells with multiphoton excitation, allowing for time-resolved characterization of intracellular ionic strength in response to extracellular stimuli. - Received Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for incorporating active learning methodology into the general chemistry curriculum and general chemistry lab courses.
