Hydraulics Mechanic: quoting, trouble-shooting, and repair of hydraulic cylinders for heavy machinery.

Rota, Spain

First line leadership, supervising three personnel directly in the maintenance of a naval weapons system and all associated hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems involved with said system. Supervision of 20 personnel indirectly in Combat Gunnery Division. My work center was recognized for having been the only such weapons system in the U.S. Navy's Second Fleet to score a 100 percent grade in the Navy's largest inspection, the Congressional Board of Inspection and Survey. I assisted in the homeport-shift of the ship from Naval Station Norfolk to Rota, Spain. During our maiden deployment as part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces Spain, my work-center was the only continually operating Mk 45 Gun in the Sixth Fleet Operational Area thereby allowing us to maintain tactical presence in the Black Sea during the crisis in Crimea, Ukraine, including during a highly controversial overflight of the ship by a Russian SU-24 Fighter Jet. This deployment included port visits to Greece (Crete and Rhodes), Romania (Constanta), Albania (Durres), Portugal (Funchal), and two transits through the Turkish Straits. During our second deployment, we patrolled the Black Sea again, with visits in Italy (Sicily), Romania (Constanta), Bulgaria (Varna), and Greece (Crete). My collaterals at this command were: Visit Board Search and Seizure Team, Manager of all Material Handling Equipment (Forklifts and associated gear), Work Center Supervisor, and Lead Technician.

Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan

As a Petty Officer Second Class I was responsible for the maintenance conducted on the aft Mk 45 Gun Weapons System aboard the USS Shiloh (CG-67), part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan. Having arrived shortly after the "Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami", we were sortied to sea in support of search and recovery operations, earning the Humanitarian Service Medal. Soon after we were deployed to escort the USS Carl Vinson during their burial at sea of Osama Bin Laden and a port visit to Manila, Phillipines. Other ports of call included Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea.

Naval Support Activities, Bahrain

As a member of Mobile Security Squadron 3, Detachment Bahrain, I was the Lead Armorer and Chief of Guard aboard multiple civilian and military vessels which were determined to be high value assets by the Department of Defense during their transit through naval choke points such as the Suez Canal, Horn of Africa, and Straits of Hormuz.
