Technologies in-use: AWS (many services), Windows, AD, ADFS, SAML, PowerShell, Javascript, Python, Java, RDS, Terraform, PackerBCAA, excited about the cloud after migrating a portion of their services, were looking for an in-house architect to help take their primary software solution into AWS. Given my direct experience with migrating businesses (Start-up to Enterprise) into the cloud, I was invited to consult with their team and help develop complete automation for their software in the cloud.Now, with my help, BCAA is starting their journey into cloud architecture for their primary software solution, realizing the full benefits of automation, including enhanced scalability, availability, security, cost-savings, and time-to-market.

Recently having completed their Acquisition by Volkswagen, PayByPhone needed to re-assert their dominance in the Parking market, investing in brand new technology and attacking new area's in their industry. PayByPhone was looking to bring somebody on board that understands how to architect, design, launch, and monitor NodeJS services in AWS, helping them to modernize their infrastructure supporting their GeoLocation products.Projects CompletedGeo-Location Service Infrastructure Modernization---- Update Terraform to achieve native Remote State capabilities- Refactored infrastructure codebase, removed thousands of lines of deprecated code- Integrated with new VPC supplied by Platform Team- Rebuilt infrastructure using a Security-First methodologyFPS---- Automated infrastructure in AWS with Terraform to launch this new greenfield project- Created RDS user management scripts for shared Aurora cluster, automating the creation of users, assigning of permissions, and storage of credentials in Parameter Store- Launched new cluster for administrative backend- Worked with Platform team to create proper routing and firewalls rules between Peer1 and AWS to support Legacy PBP Applications reaching the Admin APIBase Platform--------------- Designed new pipeline to support Native Metrics alerting through Pagerduty- Altered Base Platform terraform to launch this pipeline across all environments- Documented features and usage patterns

Technology Adopted: Microsoft Azure Resource Manager, PowerShell, PowerShell Workflow, JSON, Microsoft Windows Server 2012/2016, Microsoft SQL Server 2016, Azure Automation AccountsWorking in a contract relationship with Scalar Decisions we are moving PNI Media, a Staples company, into Microsoft Azure. Facing one of the tightest deadlines I've experienced in my career, we are tasked with transitioning PNI out of their current data-center and into Azure in only 4 months. The real kicker here, it ALL has to be defined in code, and automated.Our team has devised a 3-layer orchestration approach using PowerShell Workflows, defining each singular piece of resource in ARM Templates at the lowest level layer. The next layer up is responsible for gathering data on the given environment we are building in, and launching our lower build layer. This leaves the top layer to define every single environment and its requirements, providing all of the necessary static data for the middle layer to do its work.Given Scalar and PNI's excellent knowledge of Cloud technologies, and trusted partners like SixOhQuad Consulting Inc, this project has been both thrilling, and educational. We are excited to be helping one of the largest, most ambitious migrations to-date into Microsoft Azure.

This position is multi-faceted. Acting as a DevOps Evangelist, and Systems Architect, I am focused on bringing PayByPhone into the cloud, modernizing the tooling used to bring new products to market, and ensuring the overall health of our systems.My largest goal at the moment is to take the entire PayByPhone platform, and deploy it into Amazon AWS. This task will involve a deep understanding of our Software, and long-term planning with our Software Architecture team to pull apart our most highly coupled applications, and move them into distributed systems in the cloud.My biggest short-term goal is to introduce the Github Flow methodology of interacting with Git, introducing a pull request model, and automating the deploy pipeline from development to production.
