I am an early career mechanical engineer who graduated from Kansas State University in the spring of 2018. Originally from Lansing, KS, I moved to the Albuquerque metropolitan area following graduation to work with the company that sponsored my senior design project, Ideal Vacuum. During my time at Ideal Vacuum, I was instrumental in bringing affordable modular vacuum chamber systems to market, worked closely with customers to design systems to their specific requirements, managed and supported IT systems at the company, and routinely ran student outreach efforts by mentoring over 100 senior level mechanical engineers at K-State through their senior design program. Unfortunately, my time at Ideal Vacuum was cut short due to COVID, though it was an enlightening and highly enjoyable experience to have worked there. During the summer of 2020, while Ideal Vacuum was still closed due to COVID, I moved back home to the Kansas City area to work for Honeywell FM&T. So far at Honeywell, I have routinely worked with cross-function team of engineers to diagnose and prevent manufacturing defects, received a Six Sigma Green Belt certification for successful research projects into novel measurement systems, and become a subject matter expert for mechanical design and vacuum system integrity for areas across the manufacturing plant. Additionally, to further my abilities as a mechanical engineer, I have taken the opportunity to begin classes and conducting research at the University of Missouri Kansas City in pursuit of a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. While only just beginning my time at UMKC, I have already proved to be a valuable member of my research team, providing novel insights and mechanical improvements to their testing procedures. In summary, while I have only been in the field of engineering for a few years, my experiences in that time have been wide ranging and have made me an exceptionally well-rounded engineer and creative thinker. Design of novel systems for any variety of tasks has long been a passion of mine, and furthering my knowledge base through work, projects, and school is the most rewarding part of engineering for me.
