Entry Systems and Technology DivisionFocus on optical diagnostic techniques for characterizing high enthalpy flow inside Arc Jet Facilities. Two projects involving arc jet test support instrumentation were pursued: Calibration of a mid-wave infrared spectroradiometer and characterization of an atomic nitrogen and oxygen reference source for calibration of a laser-induced fluorescence diagnostic.

Experimental research focused on characterizing atomization quality of aircraft hybrid fuel nozzle and quantifying relation between velocity flow fields and pollutant formation.

A collaboration between Ryerson Institute for Aerospace Design and Innovation (RIADI) and industry partner SPPCA. The purpose of this individual research project was to advance the goal of virtual testing for future projects involving landing gear shock absorbers. • The goal was to test the performance of a landing gear shock absorber with various internal geometries using a CFD model and to capture the internal spray patterns and cavitation effects during a full stroke landing scenario.• Successfully identified internal geometry characteristics that did not affect the dynamic spring behaviour of the shock absorber and captured internal fluid flow characteristics throughout an entire landing simulation.
