"Don't save what you can do today, for tomorrow" Was a saying my father told me numerous times while growing up, and has stuck with me since. I have always been GO-GO-GO since I was a kid and it overlapped into my work ethic. For 18 years I worked in the family business, starting as a fish processor, where I became one of the fastest fish filleters in the world, and spent my days communicating with customers and providing custom processing to their daily catch. After several years of maintaining the fish processing plant, I decided to take on a bigger role of store management and product development. I was able to develop more business oriented related skills during this time; profit margins, reconciliation, accounting, payroll, the whole works. I enjoyed wearing many hats, as I thrived on the daily challenges and loved learning new things or new ways to produce/solve things. Given the amazing opportunity to work from the bottom, I built quite the arsenal of skills. But as time moved on I realized I yearned for more mental stimulation and learning, even after completing my Bachelor’s of Science in Fish & Wildlife Management. I was always working in technology, from building inventory databases in excel and formatting Point of Sale systems, to using GIS and radio telemetry along with population dynamics for data analysis using excel and other software. And it wasn’t until I was working in a Pharmacy and came across several software bugs in our systems that couldn’t be fixed without corporate and a lengthy process, that I begin to start learning about programming. Realizing how much I enjoyed coding and its ability to not only mentally stimulate me but provide me with endless educational opportunities, I felt I finally found where I was meant to be.
