Concrete Workers mix, pour and finish concrete for a variety of different construction jobs. This is a position that revolves around manual labor. Concrete Workers often work outside or inside unfinished buildings, so they have to work in both the hot and cold weather. This is a position for those who have manual dexterity and average physical strength, as it involves using tools and lifting bags of concrete mix. Concrete Workers are employed by the construction industry. The construction projects they work on include new building construction, sidewalks, parking lots and roadways. Usually working 40-hour workweeks and during the day, although evening and night projects were common.My role of a Concrete Worker follows the hierarchy of many other trade professions. When I was first hired, Concrete Workers start out as apprentices. They work under the supervision of a Journeyman Concrete Worker as they learn everything they need to know about mixing and pouring concrete. Both levels of Concrete Worker answer to the project foreman. On this job I learned many different skills. I will go through some of the most common:-Loaded and unloaded necessary tools, materials and machines from trucks and trailers.-Constructed forms to create various concrete structures.-Set up scaffolding, braces and other temporary structures to support crew during work.-Removed debris and waste to clean site after completing work.-Calculated concrete quantities needed for jobs.-Planned work based on verbal instructions, blueprints and written specifications.-Inspected and maintained tools and equipment.-Used numerous types of power tools and other equipment daily.-Maintained safety of work areas by adhering to strict regulations
